The Moon is the card of the in-between hours — when the path is lit only by silver light and everything looks a little other than it is. It speaks of intuition, dreams and the deep water of the subconscious, and also of illusion, anxiety and not-knowing. It asks you to keep walking even when you can’t see the whole way.

What the card shows
In the Rider–Waite–Smith deck, a full moon with a sleeping face hangs between two towers. Below, a dog and a wolf howl up at it — the tame and the wild parts of us. A crayfish crawls out of a pool in the foreground, and a winding path leads from the water, between the towers, into the distant hills.
It is a picture of the journey from the unconscious (the pool) toward understanding (the far hills), taken by moonlight rather than sunlight. You can see the path — just not clearly.
The Moon upright
Upright, The Moon says that not everything is as it appears. There may be missing information, mixed signals or your own fears colouring the picture. It is not a card for big, final decisions. It is a card for listening: to dreams, to your gut, to the feeling you can’t yet put into words.
The Moon also blesses intuitive and creative work. Reflection, divination, dreamwork, art — anything that draws on the deep water is favoured.
The Moon in love
In love, The Moon can point to uncertainty — unspoken feelings, mixed messages, or projections (seeing who you hope someone is, rather than who they are). Go slowly, ask gently, and let the truth surface in its own time.
The Moon in career and money
At work, The Moon warns against signing, committing or investing while information is unclear. Double-check details and read the small print. Creatively, though, it can be a rich time for ideas.
The Moon reversed
Reversed, The Moon often shows confusion beginning to lift: a fear faced, a secret surfacing, a situation finally making sense. It can also point to anxiety turned inward — worries that are louder in your head than in the world. Either way, dawn is coming.
The Moon as advice
As advice, The Moon says: trust your intuition, but verify. Honour what you sense. Then wait for enough light to be sure.
You don’t need to see the whole path. Only the next silver step.
