The Vespera Almanac (“we”, “us”) publishes vesperaalmanac.com. This policy explains what information is collected when you visit, why, and the choices you have. We keep it as small as we can.
What we collect
- Information you give us. If you leave a comment, we collect the name, email address and website you enter, the comment itself, your IP address and browser details (to help detect spam). If you write to us, we keep your message and address so we can reply.
- Newsletter. The Sunday Letter is delivered through Substack. When you subscribe, your email address is collected and stored by Substack under its own privacy policy, not on this site.
- Information collected automatically. Like most websites, our host records standard server logs (IP address, browser type, pages requested, date and time) for security and performance. We do not use this to identify you.
Cookies
We use a small number of cookies and similar technologies:
- Essential cookies that make the site work (for example, remembering your details if you choose to when commenting).
- Caching and performance tools that help pages load quickly.
- Third-party cookies from services embedded on the site — such as Pinterest (when you use a Save button), fonts served by Google Fonts, and affiliate partners (see below) — which may record that you visited or clicked a link.
You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Most of the site will still work without them.
Affiliate links
Some links on this site are affiliate links. If you click one and make a purchase, the retailer may use a cookie to record that the sale came from us, and we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. See our Affiliate Disclosure for details.
Embedded content and third parties
Pages may include content from other sites (for example, pinned images or links to shops). Those sites may collect data about you, use cookies and track your interaction with that content just as if you had visited them directly. Services we rely on include our web host (Hostinger), Google Fonts, Pinterest, Substack and affiliate programmes such as Amazon Associates.
How we use information
- To publish and moderate comments.
- To reply to letters and messages.
- To keep the site secure, fast and free of spam.
- To understand, in aggregate, which articles readers find useful.
We do not sell your personal information.
How long we keep it
Comments and their metadata are kept indefinitely so they can stay published and follow-up comments can be approved automatically. Messages are kept only as long as needed to respond. Server logs are kept by our host for a limited period.
Your rights
Depending on where you live (including under the GDPR in the UK and EU, and state privacy laws in the US such as California’s CCPA), you may have the right to access, correct or delete the personal data we hold about you, or to object to how it is used. To make a request, email hello@vesperaalmanac.com. You can unsubscribe from the Sunday Letter at any time using the link in any issue.
Children
This site is intended for adults and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
Changes
If we change this policy, we’ll update the date at the top of this page.
